Helen Jean Mudrick, 90, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026, at Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg.
Born in Butler, PA to Pavel and Mary Mudrick on May 29, 1936, Jean graduated from Butler Senior High School in 1954. Embarking on a secretarial career she would eventually enjoy a decades long employment with IBM (stands for “I’ve Been Moved!”) in major US cities rising to levels of responsibility that far eclipsed her formal education. Once semi-retired in Washington, DC, she volunteered at the White House Visitor’s Center and the Dupont Circle Business Improvement District.
Cognitive decline due to Alzheimer’s Disease led to her relocation to Lynchburg in 2023 to be near family.
Aside from her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Margaret Grennek. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Paul Mudrick (Gail) of Lynchburg; her aunt Evelyn Prokopchak of Phoenix, AZ; her four nephews, Dr. Colin Mudrick (Berkley) of Richmond, VA, Drs. Tucker and Jessica Mudrick of San Antonio, TX, Steve Grennek (Stephanie) of Dayton, OH, David Grennek (Kim) of Clifton, VA; and numerous cousins.
The family is grateful for the exceptional care provided in Assisted Living, Canterbury Gardens Memory Care, and the Drinkard Nursing Care divisions of Westminster Canterbury. Jean’s quality of life was notably enhanced by Miss Taneshia Cole’s compassionate companion care.
A private graveside service officiated by St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church will take place on September 26, 2026, in Butler, PA.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg is assisting the family.
