Hattie Gibson, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, peacefully entered eternal rest on August 2nd, 2026. Her life was a beautiful reflection of love, strength, compassion, and devotion to her family. Although her presence will be deeply missed, the lessons she taught, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so freely will remain in the hearts of her family for generations to come.

Hattie Rebekah was born on October 14th, 1930 in Gladstone, Va to the late Hattie Megginson Jeffries and John Ivory Jeffries. She was one of 9 children and was raised alongside her siblings, Alma, Mary, Elizabeth, Bertha, Rose, Walter. From an early age, Hattie learned the importance of faith, family, community, hard work, and caring for others—values that remained at the center of her life.

She received her education at Carver High School in Appomattox, Va. An avid reader Hattie encouraged those around her to remain life long learners. Hattie dedicated many years of her life to Macca Community Outreach, Gladstone Senior Citizen Organizations, and Nelson County Elections as a volunteer. She also worked as a manufacturing supervisor with Lovingston Manufacturing until her retirement. She approached every responsibility with determination and took great pride in providing for and caring for those she loved.

Hattie was joined in marriage to the late Edward James Gibson. Together, they shared 42 years of marriage and built a life rooted in love, commitment, and family. From their union came 7 children: the late Valerie Gibson Morgan, Linda Lewis(Michael) of Lynchburg, Debra Williams(Michael) of Lynchburg, Terri Gibson(Anthony) of Gladstone, Dwayne Gibson(Linda) of Richmond, the late James Gregory Gibson, and an infant daughter. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchild were among the greatest joys of her life.

To know Hattie was to know a woman whose love could be felt in both the largest celebrations and the smallest everyday moments. Her home was a place where family could gather, eat, laugh, sing, talk, and simply, be together. Holidays and family gatherings were made special because of the warmth she brought into the room.

Hatties strength was steady, her wisdom was practical, and her love was constant. She not only spoke about the importance of family; she demonstrated it through the way she lived.

Hattie was a member of Second Mineral Springs Baptist. Her faith guided her throughout her life and gave her strength through every season. She believed in the power of prayer, and she encouraged her family to trust God and love one another.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hattie Megginson Jeffries and John Ivory Jeffries; her husband, Edward James Gibson; her children, Valerie Gibson Morgan, James Gregory Gibson, an infant daughter; and her siblings.

Left to cherish Hattie’s loving memory are her children, grandchildren Tami, Steven, Michael L, Gregory, Marqia, Michael W, Dwayne, Brittany, Rodney, Kristin, Logan, Jordin, Ashley, and the late Javon Danielle, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, a cherished and devoted nieces Gwendolyn Ann Weathersbee, Wanda, Connie, Lisa, devoted friends Tim Lawing, Maddie Turner, Lewis and Marianna Glover and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended relatives, and many dear friends.

Hattie was the heart of her family—a source of comfort, wisdom, strength, and unconditional love. She was the kind of woman whose presence made a house feel like home and whose care made people feel protected. Her family will miss her voice, her guidance, and the comfort of simply knowing she was there.

While her earthly journey has ended, Hattie’s legacy will continue through every life she touched.

Her life was a blessing. Her memory will be treasured. Her love will never fade.

A visitation will be held on Saturday August 8, 2026 from 5 pm to 7 pm in the Commonwealth Room at Tharp Funeral Home located at 220 Breezewood Dr Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held on Sunday August 9, 2026, at 2 pm at the Second Mineral Springs Baptist Church located at 404 Norwood Rd, Gladstone, VA.
