Harvey Worley Fulcher “Sonny,” age 90, died on January 16, 2026, with his son by his side. His final weeks were spent in the hospital, with family nearly always present to comfort and love him.
Sonny was born on September 8, 1935, to Lena Worley and Howard Copeland Fulcher, and was the last of their eleven children to join them in heaven.
For more than forty years, Sonny worked in garment factories. He liked the work and the people, though he struggled to live on the wages paid. He lived without a spouse for most of his life, but two marriages gave him four children who were the great loves of his life, and whose successes and struggles he felt as his own.
An uncomplicated kid at heart, Sonny freely shared his feelings and affection and loved being with family. He was playful, easily amused, and made happy by simple things—warm weather, time outdoors, and the teasing of grandchildren who called him “Grumpy-pa.”
At the beginning of the new year, Sonny was living in his apartment, singing along to the country music he had loved all his life, watching old westerns or comedies on television, enjoying doughnuts, and calling out “Woohoo!” and “Oh boy!” when happy.
Sonny is survived by his children, Roxanne (Keith Chamberlin), Tony Lynn, Travis Shane Fulcher, and Harvey Rico Jones; his grandchildren, Shana (Kevin Dwyer), Ryan (Lauri) Fulcher, Dylan Lee, and Andre’ Jones (Austin); and nine great-grandchildren,. He is also survived by his beloved niece, Linda Logwood Hesson, whom he cherished like a sister and affectionately called “Sissy.”
A funeral service will be held on February 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas Road Baptist Church, (Pate Chapel). A celebration of Sonny’s life will take place outdoors when the weather is warm.
Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
