Harry Christopher Saunders, Jr

Harry Christopher Saunders, Jr., 84, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026. He was born on April 30, 1941, in Virginia, and was the son of the late Harry Christopher Saunders, Sr. and Emma Walker Saunders.

Harry graduated from Dunbar High School, class of 1962. He was a faithful member of Peaceful Baptist Church and a proud member of the Elks Lodge.

He was a business owner for over 40 years and the owner of Chris Shoe Shop, where he was known for his exceptional craftsmanship and keen eye for fashion. Harry was highly artistic and took great pride in his work. He loved spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his creativity, dedication, and strong work ethic.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Penn Saunders; children, Harry Saunders, III and his wife Tolice, Howard Saunders and his wife Sonya; grandchildren, Elijah, Sydni, Cameron, Skylar, and Christian; great-grandchild, Alaina Marie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his brothers Robert “Grasshopper” and Perry Saunders.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with Pastor Lucius M. Dalton officiating. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
