Harry James (Halsley) McCray

Harry James (Halsley) McCray was born on January 13, 1958 to James and Nancy McCray. He was called home early Sunday morning on February 15, 2026.

He joined Chestnut Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He worked for R.R. Donnelly for over 20 years until his illness. He loved his family and friends and also fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nancy McCray; brother, Bobby (Jake) Rucker; sister in law, Lynda McCray; and nephew, Jason Rucker.

He leaves many to love and cherish his memory, two sisters, Josephine McCray and Shelia McCray; five brothers, Clarence McCray, Timmy McCray (Lisa), Garry McCray, Kevin McCray (Beth), and Stan McCray; sister in law, Patricia Rucker; bonus sister, Carolyn Braxton; a devoted caretaker, B.J. Mays; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights with Rev. Eugene Henry officiating. Interment will be at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Monroe, Va.
