In the presence of his loving family, Dick passed into eternal life on August 6, 2026, at his home in Lynchburg, Virginia.

H. Richard Losch was born on May 31, 1941, in Richfield, Pennsylvania, to Helen and Harold Losch. On September 26, 1964, he married Janet Ferster, and together they shared nearly 62 years of marriage and raised three daughters: Jill (Losch) Reber, Heather (Losch) Meade, and Angela (Losch) Holloman.

Faithful to his Lord Jesus Christ, his wife, and his family, Dick sought to live out the fruit of the Spirit in every area of his life—except maybe patience! He had a strong work ethic and found it difficult to sit still. An early riser, he was often found with a cup of coffee in one hand and God’s Word in the other. That picture of him, quietly beginning his day in Scripture, is etched in the minds and hearts of those who knew him well.

Dick entered the United States Army in 1963 and served as a medic in Vietnam, a sacrifice and responsibility he held in high regard throughout his life. Before being drafted, he graduated from Houghton College and later earned a master’s degree from Penn State University. He began his career at Houghton College, where he served as Business Administrator, before moving his family back to their roots in central Pennsylvania to take over his father’s construction company.

Dick spent most of his working life in construction, taking great pride in his work and in providing for his family. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling, but perhaps his greatest enjoyment was investing in people. He faithfully served those around him - his church, his community, and his family. He was known for his integrity, strong sense of humor, and willingness to work hard. Even as his memory began to fail in recent years, his humor remained a cherished part of who he was.

His greatest legacy, however, is the family he leaves behind. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, daughters and sons-in-law, twelve grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. There was perhaps no greater joy for Dick than knowing that his children and grandchildren were walking with the Lord. His faith was not simply something he professed; it was woven into the way he lived, loved, worked, and served.

For Dick, faith was ultimately about a relationship with Jesus Christ and the promise of eternal life. The family finds comfort in knowing that the faith he cherished throughout his life has now become sight. While his family grieves his absence, they do so with the hope and assurance that, because of Christ, this is not goodbye forever. His life leaves behind a legacy of faith that will continue through the generations, and his family is grateful for the promise that one day they will be together again.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 4:00 PM at Heritage Baptist Church. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
