Gregg Bradley Amonette

Gregg Bradley Amonette, 73, passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 after a short illness. He was the son of the late Robert Littleberry Amonette and Phyllis Thompson Amonette of Lynchburg.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan Palasthy Amonette. Also surviving are his son, Jacob Andrew Charles Amonette and his daughters, Margaret Langhorne Amonette and Elizabeth Anne Amonette. His other surviving family members include his older brother, Robert Littleberry Amonette III (Theresa) and two sisters, Langhorne Phyllis Ellis (Dr. Barringer Ellis) and Anne Amonette Erbele along with a long list of his much-loved nieces and nephews.

Gregg was born and raised in Lynchburg, VA and graduated from EC Glass High School in 1971. He earned a BA from Washington and Lee University in 1975 and worked in a diverse array of businesses in the subsequent years. He began a career in financial services in 1984 with ADP Brokerage in New York, NY as a sales manager. He later became Vice President of Sales for ADP in Chicago and several years later, Senior Vice President of Sales for New York City and the eastern region. In 1997, he joined several colleagues to form a new fintech company in New York, Multex.com, Inc. He was a founding partner and Senior Vice President of Sales for Multex for 7 years. During that time, he and his family lived in Westfield, NJ where they spent a wonderful 13 years.

In the early 2000s, the family moved to Lexington, VA and then to Rockbridge Baths, VA. In Lexington, Gregg founded Emrey & Amonette, a small insurance company on Main Street, with Dick Emrey. They managed it for 8 years, then sold it to Campbell Insurance of Lynchburg VA in 2017. He also was co-owner of Pure Eats, a popular restaurant on Main Street. Gregg served on several community boards in both Lexington and Rockbridge County. He served on the board of and as the president of the Rockbridge Conservation Council for many years. He was a member of Session at Lexington Presbyterian Church for many years as well. He worked as waitstaff for The Community Table (dinners for those in need) in Lexington and was a member of the board of RANA (Rockbridge Area Network Association). Gregg always had a strong sense of stewardship and was enthusiastic about landscaping, growing plants and protecting areas of natural beauty. Cars were always a hobby of his and one he enjoyed with his son. In recent years, he purchased a garage in Lynchburg to store a diverse collection of them. He kept up a decades-long tradition of camping on the Cowpasture River with Lynchburg friends and he’d often take fishing and hunting trips with his W&L buddies. He loved to cook crispy bacon and split pea soup, and was known among family members to jam out to classic rock.

In 2020, he and Susan moved to Lynchburg, and he’s since immensely enjoyed spending time with friends both old and new. He especially cherished his men’s hiking club outings on Wednesdays and his Tuesday morning book club meetings. He was a present, generous, and ever-supportive husband, dad, son, brother, and brother-in-law. He was loved by so many for his energy, integrity, wit, and fun nature.

The family would like to thank everyone from New York, New Jersey, Virginia and beyond who have been such great friends throughout Gregg’s lifetime. The family would also like to thank all his caregivers at Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg with sincere appreciation for the excellent and compassionate care given to him.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, February 5 at 1:00 PM at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lynchburg. His remains will be placed in the columbarium at Spring Hill Cemetery, Lynchburg.
