Glenn Richard Wertz II, 79, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with colorectal cancer. He was the devoted husband of Jeanette Wertz, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.
Glenn was born on May 24, 1947, in Salem, Virginia, the son of the late Glenn Richard Wertz and Melva Flora Wertz. He honorably served his country for six years in the United States Navy, including service in the submarine fleet, before attending Virginia Tech to earn his degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career with B&W and dedicated 35 years, retiring in 2012.
Glenn enjoyed many rounds of golf with friends over the years. He was also well known for his quick wit, practical wisdom, and willingness to lend a helping hand to his neighbors. One of Glenn's greatest joys in retirement was fulfilling a lifelong dream of purchasing an RV and traveling across the country with his wife, Jeanette. Together they explored the nation, making treasured memories and enjoying the freedom and adventure they had long dreamed of sharing.
In addition to his wife, Glenn is survived by his son, Brett Wertz and wife, Christi, and their two sons; his daughter, Kelly Workman and husband, Chris, and their son and daughter, all of Forest. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Wertz and wife, Sylvia, of Rocky Mount, Virginia.
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
