Gary Moore passed away in his sleep on July 2nd, 2026, at the age of 84. A cherished love, father, pappy, great grandfather, brother, and uncle, he lived an impressive and beautiful life. The last few years he quietly endured numerous serious illnesses followed by a lengthy hospitalization and yet, somehow battled to the end, allowing his family the opportunity to express their love and goodbyes. His final wish was to hold his new born great-grandson, Noah William — his namesake and third generation William. God fulfilled that wish.

His unyielding faith in God and Christ was the foundation of his existence and now he is at peace in the arms of God. The hand tooled leather-covered Bible his parents gave him as a child sits in a place of honor on his bookshelf, well-worn through every page.

Gary‘s family meant everything to him and they all adored him. He was one of the most kind, caring and generous individuals anyone could ever know.

Everyone loved Gary.

Gary is survived by his love of 38 years Sharlet Flora, his sons, Brandon (April) Moore, and Cliff (Lisa) Moore; four grandchildren— Taylor Moore (Ronnie Jones), Lance Tribiano, Taylor (Andrew) Schwerdt, and Emma Moore; and three great-grandchildren — Rylie and Noah William Moore-Jones, and Arizona Schwerdt; brother Lynn (Judy) Moore, sister June (Walt) Gautier, sister-in-law Kate [Darrell] Moore; and numerous close nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his youngest son Russell, his mother and father Ruby and Randol Moore, sister Betty, and brother Darrell.

Gary is also survived by Sharlet and her family who loved him dearly: son Kirk (Kim) Flora, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and preceded in death by son Kane Flora.

Many lifelong friends have kept in close touch with Gary and will miss him greatly.

Gary pursued his education and career with subtle intensity and drive. After graduating from Frost High School, he completed his Bachelors and then Masters degree in math at Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&I) at the early age of 19, Gary quickly climbed up the ranks of Corporate America in the field of Information Systems. He became a highly respected executive and leader at Fortune 100 companies including Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and Oracle Corporation where he managed large programs across numerous continents.

His close business colleagues offered their deep-felt sentiments:

While pursuing his impressive career, he never neglected his family. Some of his favorite activities and best memories were hosting events, Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays and swimming in his home pool in Maryland with his family and grandchildren. His family could always count on him to show up if they needed him and to attend every family event with joy.

His famous down-home Texas cooking left the family with a long repertoire of often requested and treasured recipes. Chicken enchiladas, pecan pies and gooey butter cakes graced his oven and our plates, year after year.

Recreational travel was another major joy. His safari through Africa with his son Russell was the highlight of his travel adventures. He also soaked in the sites and culture of Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, China, Hong Kong, France, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chili, Peru, Columbia, Canada, Sweden, Caribbean Islands, Hawaiian Islands, and experienced countless priceless vacations in nearly every section of the US. Those included memorable trips with his sons as they grew up and exhilarating experiences with ocean and lake boating and fishing with them and their families in their power boats, over the last several years. He fondly recalled camping trips with his brothers in later years, and domestic and international journeys over the decades with Sharlet.

Beyond his love of travel, he had an over-exuberant interest in international policies and politics and was an avid reader of those topics. Without hesitation, he openly expressed his views and twice had his writings published in the editorial section of the Washington Post newspaper in Washington DC.

Always buzzing loudly in the background on his home TV was some sporting event. He was a huge sports fan.

Once a Texan, always a Texan. Gary was born and raised in a small town in Texas and will be laid to rest in that same town in his family cemetery.

Funeral services are scheduled for 8/22/2026 at 4:00 PM, for close friends and family to be held at the Richland Cemetery, about 1 mile south of the small church Gary attended in his childhood, the First Baptist Church of Mertens.

Following the services, a short gathering with food and beverages will be held in the Fellowship Hall next to the church.
