SSG Garland Wade Neas, 67, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at Carrington Place, Daleville, VA. He was born on June 14, 1958, in Bedford, VA, a son of the late Aubrey Odell Neas, Sr. and Letty Mae Wood Neas. In addition to his parents Garland was preceded in death by sons, Johnathan Neas, Kendall Neas; brothers, Aubrey Neas, and Jeffrey Neas.
Garland proudly served 20 years of active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He held the rank of Staff Sergeant and worked as an Engineer Equipment Chief. He served in combat during Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the Persian Gulf War in Iraq. His platoon was the first to set boots on the ground and the last unit to leave when the war ended. After his active duty, Garland was honorably discharged and went on to serve another 10 years in the Fleet Marine Corps Reserve. His dedication, leadership, and service to his country will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
Garland is survived by his children, Garland Wade Neas, Jr, Nichols Neas, Amanda Neas Ramos (Nelson); grandchildren, Savannah Ramos, Sophia Ramos, Nelson Ramos, Jr, Isabella Ramos, Damian Neas, Kolbie Neas; brothers, Richard Neas (Christy), Travis Neas (Cindy); sisters, Eva Neas-Brown (Steve), Doris Whitley; Daughter-in-Law, Natalie Neas; and numerous other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 12, 2025, 2:00- 4:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford. A Graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
