Fred George Van Someren

Fred George Van Someren, 84 of Penhook died Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Born June 11, 1927 in Chicago, IL, Van was a son of the late William VanSomeren and the late Claire Diehl VanSomeren. Van was the husband of Ann VanSomeren for 64 years.

In addition to his parents Van was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Lawrence VanSomeren, and a sister, Margie Stoll.

In addition to his wife Van is survived by his children: Bonnie J. Overman and her husband, Dewey, of Penhook, William S. VanSomeren and Jeanie Kawalski, of San Francisco, CA, and Barbara C. Bates and her husband, Bryan, of Chicago IL; six grandchildren: Mike Shumake and his wife, Stacey, of Raleigh, NC, Chris Shumake and his wife, Katie, of Raleigh, NC, Boyd Overman and his wife, Amy, of Charlotte, NC, Jeremy Overman and his wife, Chrissie, of Wilmington, NC, Bridget Ann Bates, of Chicago, Il, and Brendan Van Bates, of Chicago, IL, and numerous friends and loved ones.

Van married his childhood sweetheart Ann, who he rode on the handle bars of his bicycle. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a happy guy who loved life, his glass was never half empty. He was a good Christian man and especially loved his church, Penhook, UMC. Van proudly served his country during WWII as a member of the US Army. Van was a member of the American Legion and Kiwanis.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 9, 2012 at Penhook UMC with the Rev. Judy Short officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
