It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Fred Franklin Collier, Sr, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at The Summit after a very brief and courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 29, 1946, in Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he was a father, friend and companion whose gentle personality touched the lives of all he met. Fred was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two children, one grandson and a niece and nephew:
Fred F. Collier, Jr. and his partner Linda Matthews, Debra Wyland and her husband Wendell Wyland, grandson Benjamin H. Wyland; niece Karen Burks and her husband David Burks; nephew Curtis Kirkland Jr., and his wife Heather Kirkland; and beloved friend Arlene Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his former wife Brenda Neely Collier (d. 2006), father Franklin Green Collier and mother Cleo Carter Collier, and sister Naomi Collier Kirkland.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and the funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 11:00 am at Tharp Funeral and Crematory, 118 Commonwealth Dr.
Madison Heights, VA 24572. A private graveside service will be held for the family.
A very special thank you to Rosa Martin, Hospice Nurse; Mary Campbell, Hospice Aide; Pam Carroll, Hospice Social Services Worker; and to the nurses and aides at The Summit during his brief stay.
