Franklin “Tom” Showalter

Franklin Thomas \"Tom\" Showalter died February 20, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born October 17, 1934 in Iron Gate, VA to Joseph Y. and Virginia D. Showalter.

 

He was a resident of Lynchburg, VA for over 45 years. He served as an employee and manager of several stores for The Kroger Company. He was a beloved member of Timberlake Baptist Church, acting as Sunday school teacher, choir member, and early board member and supporter of Timberlake Christian Schools.

 

He was predeceased by wife, Joyce Persinger Showalter. Tom is survived by daughters; Elizabeth \"Liz\" Sellick and companion Patrick Arrington of Big Island, and Kimberly E. Wharram and husband Walter of Richmond, grandchildren; Julia Martin, Crystal Hunt and her husband, Ernie, and Hailey Wharram, five great-grandchildren; Chloe, Caleb, Tommy, Ally, and Ryan, brothers; Guy E. Showalter and wife, Wanda of Daleville, VA, and Jack D. Showalter and wife, Mary of Charlottesville, VA, sister; Bobbie S. Slusher of Monroe, NC, and numerous nephews, nieces, and friends.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Celebration of Tom\"™s life will be conducted 10:00 am, Monday, February 24, 2014 by Rev. Dr. Bryan Ferrell and Pastor Richard Jett at Timberlake Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Central Advent Christian Cemetery Rt. 60 Clifton Forge, VA 24422 at 2:30 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to: 21395 Timberlake Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502 and designated to Timberlake Christian Schools, Timberlake Baptist Church, or to the Allow the Children Organization.

 

The family extends a special \"thank you\" to the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness.
