Frances Carter Swisher, 91, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at her home after a courageous battle with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. She was the daughter of the late Thomas C. and Myrtle F. Carter.
Frances was born on August 28, 1934 in Lynchburg, Virginia. She graduated from E. C. Glass High School in 1953 and, in 1970, started a career in real estate lasting over twenty years.
Frances was a devoted member of Timberlake Church and The New Beginnings Sunday School class. She enjoyed entertaining and decorating for the holidays and her chocolate fudge and corn pudding were always the highlight of any family gathering. During her lifetime, she was able to travel extensively throughout the United States, England, Scotland, Wales and Europe thanks to her son’s military career.
She is survived by her devoted husband of over 63 years, Jimmy L. Swisher, and her son, Colonel Brian K. Witt, U.S. Air Force, Retired, and his wife, Alexa; a daughter-in-law, Olga Vlasova-Swisher; grandchildren Andrew C. Witt and Michael G. Swisher; and two special cousins, Linda Rogers and Cathy Tweedy.
In addition to her parents, Frances is preceded in death by her first husband, John S. Witt, and her youngest son, Thomas J. Swisher.
Special thanks to her primary care physician, Dr. James Meadows of Centra Medical Group Nationwide and Centra Hospice for their outstanding care and support during her illness. During her time in hospice, she was blessed to have two exceptional caregivers, Kasie Cash, RN and Janet Nuckles, who made her last months comfortable and peaceful. Their dedication, compassion, responsiveness and focus on quality of life will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Timberlake Church, the PAN Foundation or a charity of your choice.
