Evelyn Viola Dixon

Evelyn Viola Ferguson Dixon of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

She was born on January 24, 1944, to the late William and Rossie Ferguson. She was educated in the Appomattox school system.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, James Ferguson; husband, Donnie Dixon; three sisters, Jacqueline and Freddie Ferguson, and Barbara Walker; and three brothers, Shula, Leroy, and Gary Ferguson.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who loved well and was well loved. Evelyn was an active member of Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and exploring new places.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Ivette and Shawnda Ferguson, of Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Jessica Ferguson, James Strange Jr. (Jessica), Joshua Ferguson (Kristie), Jaylon Ferguson, Trezel Sparrow, and Que Ferguson; and ten great grandchildren.

She is survived by one Brother, Wendell Ferguson (Jodolle), and many beloved

family members and friends who she will be deeply remembered and missed by.

Evelyn will be remembered for her boundless love and the joy she bought into the lives of those around her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at 12 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 5517 Pleasant Valley Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24504, with the burial following the funeral service at Pilot Mountain Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2025, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
