“Swing Low, Sweet Chariot — Coming for to carry me home.” In the early morning hours of October 31, 2025, the Angel of Silence entered her home — and with a gentle and peaceful touch — sealed the lips of EVA MCDANIEL JOHNSON, age 92, of Amherst County, Virginia. She transitioned from this life into eternal rest.

Eva was born on April 16, 1933, in Amherst County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late William Henry McDaniel and Donna Mae McDaniel, and the beloved wife of the late Thomas Sidney Johnson of Amherst, Virginia, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage.

She is preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Edward and Henry James Johnson of Amherst, VA; four sisters, Grace Lilly, Edith Hardy, Estella Morgan, and Rose McDaniel, all of Chester, PA; and two brothers, John McDaniel of Chester, PA, and James McDaniel of Amherst, VA.

Eva grew up as a member of Morning Star Baptist Church (Amherst, VA) and later became a faithful member of First Baptist Church (Coolwell, VA). She enjoyed word puzzles, traveling, and shopping. She retired after many devoted years of service as caretaker to Queenie and Seal Doyles of Doyles Florist in Lynchburg, Virginia.

She leaves to celebrate her life and honor her memory her four daughters — lovingly known as her “Four Seasons” — Nancy Kyles of High Point, NC; Edith Clark of Chesterfield, VA; A. Gwen Johnson of Durham, NC; and Karen Johnson of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren — affectionately called “The 6-Pack” — Tara Clark of Richmond, VA; April Rhodes of Durham, NC; Na’Kisha Pannell (Steven) of Lynchburg, VA; Martesh Shante Dawson, Shaheer Jamar Blackwell, and Stephen Dawson, all of Richmond, VA. She is further survived by fourteen great-grandchildren, lovingly referred to as “The Untouchables,” and six great-great-grandchildren, known as “The Boss Babies.” Eva also leaves one brother, Edward McDaniel (Mary) of Amherst; three sisters-in-law — Daisy Jones, Dorothy Johnson, and Mary Johnson of Amherst — along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many cherished friends whose lives were brightened by her presence.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She lived fully, loved deeply, and will be truly missed — not only by her family, but by all who were blessed to know her.

A service will be held at First Baptist Church Coolwell on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 1PM.
