Eugene Ould \"Sonny\" Showalter, 82, of Lynchburg, died on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 in Lynchburg. He was the husband of Anne Carson Showalter for 56 years.
Sonny was born January 14, 1930 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Fred Leslie and Mattie Ould Showalter. Sonny was a member of Peakland Baptist Church, owner of F. L. Showalter, Inc. and a veteran of the U. S. Air Force. He was also a member of the Association of General Contractors, the National Utility Contractors Association, the Lynchburg Rotary Club, a dedicated member of Oakwood Country Club, and served on the Board of Spring Hill Cemetery. Sonny was as avid sportsman, cartoonist, and loved animals of all kinds.
In addition to his wife, Sonny is survived by one son, Steven E. Showalter and friend Chase Floyd of Hillsborough, NC; one daughter, Kathryn S. Draper and husband, Robert of Lynchburg; two grandchildren, Jennifer Draper and William Draper of Lynchburg; and one sister, Martha Moore Showalter of Lynchburg, and a number of nieces. In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by two brothers, Fred L. Showalter, Jr. and William E. Showalter.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday March 5, 2012 at Peakland Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Harvey and the Rev. Nathan C. Brooks, III officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be held privately at Spring Hill Cemetery.
