Ernest Carl McCray, 79, passed away on February 20, 2026, in Richmond, Virginia.

Carl was born on January 29, 1947, in Amherst County, Virginia. He joined Timothy Baptist Church at an early age and attended Central High School. He had a remarkable ability to play the piano, as well as both lead and bass guitars, which brought joy to many throughout his life.

He is survived by his sister, Alma Dickerson of Eastampton, NJ, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He has joined his beloved family members who have gone before him, including his father, Randolph McCray, and mother, Bertha Jackson McCray. He is also reunited with his sisters Ada Rucker, Mary Gold, and Aurelia Leftwich, as well as his brothers Randolph McCray, Jr., Rev. Robert McCray, and Donald "Willie" McCray.

The memories and music of Carl will linger in the hearts of those who knew him. A service celebrating Carl's life will be held at a later date.
