Elsie Keen Landon, 78, of Madison Heights, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on October 26, 2025.
Born in McDowell County, West Virginia, Elsie was known for her warm heart, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family. She proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for two years, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. Her service reflected her strength, discipline, and deep love for her country. Her admiration for the Marine Corps remained a lifelong passion, and she was proud to support its values and those who served.
Elsie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a special talent for baking, cooking, and sewing, often filling her home with the comforting aromas of homemade meals and the warmth of handcrafted creations. Her hobbies were an extension of her generous spirit, and she delighted in sharing her talents with others.
On June 5, 1968, Elsie married the love of her life, David Landon, and together they built a life centered around love, family, and faith. She was a devoted mother to David Landon Jr. (Michelle), Derrick Landon (Kristy), Dwayne Landon (Sarah, Krissy Perks (Glen), and Kristopher Landon (Shirley). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Emily, Kayla, Alexa, Caleb, River, Clayton, Blake, Haley, Imogen, Piper, Bentley, Aly, and five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Elsie was one of eight siblings and is survived by Ruby Hough, Geneva Rackers, Bonnie Keen, and Eddie Keen. She was preceded in death by her sisters Helen Wheat and Loretta Turpin, and her brother Harrison Keen.
A memorial service to celebrate Elsie's life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Tree of Life Ministries in Lynchburg, Virginia at 11 AM. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to the service in remembrance of a woman whose love and kindness touched so many.
Elsie will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the warmth she brought into every room, the meals and quilts she lovingly crafted, her devotion to family and faith, and her proud service as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.
