We honor this beautiful person, Elizabeth (Betty) Umberger Mabe, whose life was an example of acceptance, resilience, generosity, and love. She believed in the words of scripture, "love one another" and song, "red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight.." She lived this philosophy.
Betty was proud of her children: Susie (Bobby), Jenni (Doug) and Tom, Jr. (Lori) and never hesitated to tell them how proud she was of them. Likewise, she was proud of six grandchildren: BJ, Sarah, Andy and Jeff, and Allison and Kyle, and she followed them and their accomplishments daily. Now with 7 great-grandchildren she had even more reason to be happy: Joseph, Madelyn, Mckenzie. Ellie, Olivia, Riker and Marshall were all welcomed by her. She also always enjoyed her good friends Sally, Anita, and Zoe.
While married to husband Thomas Mabe for 72 years, Betty supported his work and expressed her love for him in his endeavors whether in church leadership, fund-raising, or on the golf course.
Her final thoughts that were left to the family are summed up in the words of the hymn "When peace like a river attendeth my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll, whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say, "it is well, it is well with my soul."
The family and friends will honor Elizabeth Umberger Mabe on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 3 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
