Edward Paige Gentry, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, at Heritage Green Assisted Living after a couple of years of declining health. Born on April 2, 1936, in Crozet, Virginia, Paige lived a life marked by love, dedication, and service to others.

Paige was the cherished son of the late William Hunter and Ora Camm Short Gentry and was predeceased by his brothers, William Hunter Gentry, Jr. and Francis Marion (Jim) Gentry; a nephew, Mark Gentry; and Paige's son, Geoffrey Alan Gentry. He is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 67 years, Barbara Ann Graybeal Gentry, with whom he shared a life rich in love and faith. Together, they raised their sons, Michael E. Gentry and the late Geoffrey Alan Gentry, instilling in them the values of integrity and compassion.

Paige was a proud graduate of Andrew Lewis High School, Class of 1954. He began his career at General Electric in Salem, Virginia, where he dedicated 42 years, starting as a draftsman and rising to the esteemed position of General Manager before retiring in 1997. His commitment to excellence and leadership was evident to all who worked with him.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Paige served in the National Guard Reserves, demonstrating his dedication to his country. A man of deep faith, Edward was an active member of several churches, a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher throughout his life, including Ridgewood Baptist in Roanoke, Fort Lewis Baptist in Salem, Green Ridge Baptist in Roanoke, and attended Heritage Baptist Church in Forest, Virginia.

Paige's life was a testament to his love for family and community. He was known for his quick wit, warm smile, and generous spirit. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness touched countless lives. A talented tinkerer and woodworker, Paige enjoyed working on cars, trucks, and lawn mowing implements of various varieties, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He found working with stained glass especially rewarding, and he was exceptionally good at it.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his son, Michael, with his spouse, Sandra; his daughter-in-law, Christina Hillis, with spouse Steve; his grandchildren, Beth R. Sturdivant, with her spouse, Joe Sturdivant; Taylor Hindes, with her spouse, Andrew Hindes; Alana Price, with her spouse, Garret Price; Ashley Hillis, with her fiancé, Shepard Landrum; his great-grandchildren, Aiden Sturdivant, Braelynn Hindes, Benson Hindes, and Jet Alan Price; his nieces, Debbie McCulloch, with spouse Thad, and Cindy Wickham, with spouse Kevin (deceased); and his nephew, Eric Gentry. These will forever hold his memory dear.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at 11 AM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem, Virginia.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heritage Green for their compassionate care. Special thanks go to the Shade Tree neighbors and friends, particularly Nancy Brindle, Robert and Mariana Boska, and the family of Christina and Steve Hillis, for their unwavering support and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to a charity of your choice in honor of Paige's generous spirit.

Edward Paige Gentry's life was a beautiful reflection of his faith, love, and commitment to family and community. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who were privileged to know him.
