Edith Victoria Reed Wilkes

Edith Victoria Reed Wilkes, 92, of Martinsville passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2019. She was born in Victoria, VA on February 1, 1927. A daughter of the late Charles Benjamin Reed, Sr. and Ollie Ocie Beckner Reed. In addition to her parents Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Henry Wilkes and son, Robert W. Wilkes; three brother, Clifton Beckner, James E. Reed and Charles B. Reed Jr.; sisters, Ethel R. Poore, Beatrice R. Holley, Hattie R. Foster, Emma R. Bowling and Mattie R. Overstreet.
Edith worked for Craddock Terry as a Shoemaker for 33 years. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose. She also loved her Baptist church and being involved in it. She was loved by many and will be missed by all that knew her.
Edith is survived by her son, John D. Wilkes (Donna); daughter, Carolyn W. Talley (Ted); daughter-in-law, Lou Wilkes, nephew, Benny Reed; great nieces, Libby Turner (Buddy Turner) and Frances C. Farmer (Gregory Farmer); sister-in-law, Glenna L. Reed and numerous nieces nephews and many friends.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Golden Living Center-Martinsville Health & Rehab, Dr. John Favero and his staff, also The Mountain Valley Hospice and palliative care for the wonderful care and love shown to Edith during this most difficult of times. We are forever grateful.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday August 3, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. at Virginia Memorial Park with Pastor Payton Gilbert officiating.
