Dwayne Shannon Sipe

Dwayne Shannon Sipe, 38, of Appomattox, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010.  He was the husband of the late Lauralee Speight Sipe.

Dwayne was born Friday, January 22, 1971, in Baltimore, MD, the son of Linda Lee Bull Smith and Freddie A. Smith of Lynchburg and W. Daniel Sipe of Madison.  He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy as a gunner on the USS Wisconsin in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War.  He was the owner of Divinitist Enterprise, a commercial construction company.  He was a member of The Lighthouse Foursquare Church.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his two children, Alicia LeAnn Sipe and David Shannon Sipe of Georgia; his sister, Sarah Conaway of Lynchburg, his brothers, Robert Ben New and his fiancée, Sherry McIntyre, of Lynchburg and Bobby New and wife, Rae, of Manassas; his step-sister, Yolanda Hawkins of Lynchburg; his step-brother, Freddie Hampton of Richmond; his maternal grandmother, Virginia Emory of Maryland; his \"Special Mom\" Adrea New of Lynchburg and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Joshua Ty Sipe, his step-daughter, Morgan Dobyns, his maternal grandfather, James O. Bull, and his paternal grandparents, Willis Daniel Sipe, Sr. and Janice Molton.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 \"" 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 \"" 8:00 PM on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at Heritage Baptist Church, 219 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg.  A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 25, 2010, at Heritage Baptist Church with the Rev. Cosette Conaway officiating.  Interment will follow in Liberty Baptist Cemetery, Appomattox.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Sipe Family Memorial Fund.  Checks should be made out to Tharp Funeral Home and mailed to P.O. Box 15008, Lynchburg, VA 24502.  Funds will be earmarked for designated charities by the family at a later date.
