Douglas H. Stinespring, Sr.

Douglas Harrison Stinespring, Sr., 76, of Lynchburg died on Monday, May 7, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Ruth Cook Stinespring. Doug was born on March 15, 1936 in Charlottesville and was the son of the late Forrest Bernard and the late Dora Lucille Norman Stinespring.

Doug cherished his children and grandchildren and in addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Douglas H. Stinespring, Jr. of Lynchburg and Thomas O. Stinespring and wife, Misty of Roanoke; one daughter, Evelyn S. Newland and husband, Lee of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Jacob Newland and Daniel Newland both of Lynchburg and Wesley Richer and Landon Stinespring of Roanoke; three brothers, Herbert Stinespring and wife, June, Connelly \"Connie\" Stinespring and wife, Dot all of Waynesboro and Lurdy Stinespring of South Boston; four sisters, Jacqueline Comer of Waynesboro, Evelyn Satterwhite of Waynesboro, Juanita Campbell and husband, James of Sumter South Carolina, and Yvonne Weatherholtz and husband, Mickey of Stuarts Draft. Doug also has many brothers and sisters from growing up at the Presbyterian Home in Lynchburg where he was also a member of the Presbyterian Home's Shoeless Wonders.

In addition to his parents, Doug was predeceased by one sister, Helen Taylor and husband, Melvin; and two brothers-in-law, Glenn Comer and Charles Satterwhite.

Doug graduated from Boonsboro High School and prior to earning his Master\"™s Degree from Lynchburg College, he served in the U.S. Army. Doug was an Elder, Sunday School Teacher and dedicated Choir member of Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church. He retired from the Campbell County School system where he served as a teacher and coach at Brookville High School, an Assistant Principal at Rustburg High School and served as Principal of William Campbell High School.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.

A private interment will take place at Virginia Memorial Park. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiated by the Reverend Ron Cox.
