Mrs. Dorothy Maye Richie Johnson departed her life on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at The Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs, VA after a long battle with health issues. She was born October 9, 1943 in Lexington, VA to William “Bill” Richie and Dorothy Dandridge.
She was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Frank Donald Johnson, Sr. on May 4, 1981.
At a young age she professed her love to God and later became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bedford, VA until the death of her husband and illness struck her.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Dorothy Richie, her husband, Frank Donald Johnson, Sr., and sister, Martha Biglow.
She leaves to morn her passing her children, Ms. Donna Lee Johnson of Richmond, VA, Ms. Camilla Bernice Gray of Daphe, AL, Ms. Robia Johnette Powell of Roanoke, VA, Mr. Frank Donald Johnson, Jr. of Raleigh, NC, and Ms. Tina Marie Johnson of Cary, NC; nine grandchildren, Betty, Christopher, Israel, Libra, Brian, Joshua, Chasity, Briana, and Tiana; one great-grandchild, James; and one God child. She also leaves to morn one brother, Recardo Richie of Lexington, VA; two aunts, Florance Goode and Ludie Goode; two uncles, Leroy Richie and Thomas Richie all of Lynchburg, VA; six sister-in-laws, Louise Johnson, Hollins, VA, Patricia (Leroy) Worrell, Eva (Kester) Blackwell, Peggie Minnis, and Barbara Johnson all of Roanoke, VA, and Margorie Johnson of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Johnson of Roanoke, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Memorial services will be conducted at 1 PM, Monday, May 11, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home with Rev. William Goode presiding.
