Dorothy Farrar Rutledge Kuhn of Bedford, VA died January 11, 2026.
Born in Mecklenburg County, VA on June 7, 1934, the daughter of William B Farrar and Jean Wingold Farrar. Dorothy was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church in Bedford, VA. She was a retired nurse, and she enjoyed every day of her profession for more than 50 years. She worked for 10 years in the operating room at community hospitals, then in the infirmary at Lynchburg College for 10 years. She finished the last 30 years of her career at Forest Family Physicians and retired in 1997.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands William H. Rutledge and Edward W. Kuhn as well as her brother William Edward Farrar and granddaughter Kathryn B. Stanley.
She is survived by her husband Carl Richard Kibbey as well as her children David Earl Rutledge of Copper Hill, VA, Jeanie R. Kidd of Bedford, VA, and Donna R. Cox and her husband G. Andrew Cox of Amherst, VA. Also survived by her brother James Bennett Farrar and her husband's son James E. Kuhn and wife Charlene of Connersville, IN. In addition, Dorothy has 9 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Dot’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2026, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Ben Bamer and the Rev. Philip Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gladys, Virginia.
