Dorothy Stiff Bourne

Dorothy “Dottie” Lee Bourne, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in Beaufort, South Carolina. She was born on July 15, 1932, in Bedford, Virginia, to the late Carlyle and Kathleen Stiff. Dorothy graduated from National Business College in Roanoke, where she met the love of her life, Billy Thomas Bourne. The two were married in 1952 and built a life together centered on love, family, and devotion.

Dorothy and Billy made their home in Salem, Virginia, where they raised their family. In retirement, they returned to the family home in Thaxton, Virginia, a place that held many cherished memories.

Dorothy was a woman of deep curiosity and passion. She held a special interest in World War II history, particularly D-Day, and fulfilled a lifelong dream by visiting Normandy on her 85th birthday. She also found great joy in painting, often capturing landscapes and meaningful places through her art.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Thomas Bourne; and her siblings, Peggy Stiff Munsey, and Lowery Dale Stiff.

Above all, Dorothy was devoted to her family. She is survived by her three children: Anne Bourne Kidd (Mark), Jeff Bourne (Mary Lou), and Tim Bourne (Aliceon). She was a proud grandmother of six and a cherished great-grandmother of seven. Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love will be remembered by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined. Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford is assisting the family.
