Donald Ray Newton

Donald “Don” Newton, age 70, passed away peacefully at his home on January 30, 2026 after a long illness.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, KB and Edna Newton.

He was a devoted and loving husband to his wife of 46 years, Joanne. Their marriage was built on love, companionship, and unwavering support. Other surviving family members include his son, Jason Caldwell; siblings, Jim Newton (Rita), Pat Hubbard, Carol Richardson, Barbara Smith (Darryl); and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He also loved all of his pets greatly and shared a special bond with each one of them.

Dan could always be found watching old westerns, enjoying their timeless stories of grit and justice. He never lost his love of cooking and perfecting many of his special dishes. A devoted NASCAR fan, Don never missed a chance to follow a race, cheering on his favorite drivers and appreciating the thrill of the track. Growing up in the golden age of rock’n’roll, Don carried a lifelong love for the music that shaped his youth. His walls, lined with a treasured vinyl collection, told the story of a life lived to a powerful soundtrack. Rock’n’roll was more than music to him; it was memory, joy, and a connection to the era that never left him.

A funeral will be held at Tharp Funeral Home (Lynchburg) on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. with his brother, Jim Newton conducting the service.
