Donald Baker Brah, 87, of Lynchburg died, December 17, 2015.
Born in Davenport, Iowa March 8, 1928, he was the son of the late Stanley Michael Brah and the late Frances Baker Brah.
Mr. Brah was the husband for more than 55 years of Dorothy Moffatt Snow Brah of Ripon, WV who predeceased him in 2007. They were married in Lynchburg in 1951 at Holy Cross Catholic Church and lived their entire married life in Lynchburg, except for summers spent at their summer home in Arnold’s Valley, Rockbridge County.
He was predeceased at a young age by a brother, Richard Nelson Brah. He was also predeceased by his step-son, Terry Graham Snow of Lynchburg. He is survived by a son John Chadwick Brah, and his wife, Lilla Howle, D.V.M., of Amherst, VA. He is also survived by three step-grandsons, Kevin G. Snow (Claudia Krisa), C. Patrick Snow (Jenifer) and C. Scott Gall and their families.
He graduated from Loyola High School of Baltimore, MD and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1950 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and is a Registered Professional Engineer in Massachusetts. He has been a resident of Lynchburg since 1950 upon employment at Lynchburg Foundry Company. He retired from General Electric’s Power Line Carrier Operation in Lynchburg after 28 years of service and later retired from the 3M Co. Telecom Products Departments and from his own business, DB Systems, Inc. He was proud to have been active in the growth of a Lynchburg business, Electronic Design and Manufacturing.
Mr. Brah served as Scoutmaster for troop 5 at Rivermont Presbyterian Church in the early 1950’s. He had been a member of Boonsboro Country Club and the GE Elfun Society. An Amateur Radio Operator, K4ITH, he had been a member of the Lynchburg Amateur Radio Club.
Don wanted all the wonderful people that he had the pleasure of meeting and knowing over the years to know how much that he appreciated their friendship and kindnesses. Their support during the long illnesses of Dot and Terry and after their deaths in 2007 has been especially helpful.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Don’s life will be follow at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. James Price officiating. Interment will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
