David “ Fat Daddy” May, Sr., 65, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on February 15, 2026.
Born on November 14, 1960, in Virginia, David was a man who carried himself with quiet strength and unmistakable presence. He was street-smart, sharp-witted, and lived life on his own terms. Those who knew him understood that respect wasn’t something he asked for — it was something he commanded naturally. He moved differently, thought differently, and stood firm in who he was.
Above all else, David’s greatest pride was his family. He deeply loved his mother and carried her memory with him always. His bond with his son was one of loyalty and love — a connection that defined him.
He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and could always be counted on to stand by his team.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Edith May Staton, and lifelong friend and football buddy, Michael “Pops” Barker.
He is survived by his son, David “Booman” May, Jr.; his beloved grandchildren, Dawson Alexander May, Noah Gabriel May, and Rowan Eli May; his brothers, Greg May, Ashby Staton, and Phillip Staton; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
David’s legacy is one of strength, loyalty, and authenticity. He will be remembered for his presence, his sharp mind, and the way he stayed true to himself until the very end.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, Virginia.
