Darryl Lewis Bailey, 74, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on September 24, 2026. He was the son of the late Robert Lewis and Vivian Virginia Roberts Bailey.

He was born on August 8, 1952, in Hurricane, West Virginia. He spent more than 40 years working as an electrician in Central Virginia and took pride in the work he did. His faith was very important to him. He trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior. One of the things he cared about most was helping lead his family to know Christ, especially his grandchildren, which he wrote about in his journal. He attended Living Word Baptist Church. He also proudly served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran.

He was best known for his wit and contagious smile. He loved sports, especially baseball and football. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves, San Francisco 49ers, UVA, and the Michigan Wolverines. He enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach, taking road trips with his family, and just spending quality time together. Most of all, he loved his children and was especially proud of being “Pa Pa” to his grandchildren. Family meant everything to him, and he loved making memories with the people he cared about.

He is survived by his children, Christopher Bailey and his wife, Grace; Crystal Zaragoza Bailey and her husband Jose Luis Zaragoza Cervantes; grandchildren, Julian Morgan, Caleb Morgan, Rosalyn Zaragoza Bailey, Eliana Zaragoza Bailey, and Luka Zaragoza Bailey; sister, Paula Burnett and her husband, Jay; niece, Jamie DiNardo and her husband, Josh; former wife, Judy Irene Bailey; and many cherished cousins and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Ann Bailey, and nephew, Jeremy Burnett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Living Word Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, or UW Sports Ministry.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, with Pastor Gary Yates officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
