Listen to Obituary

Curtis Glenn Hatcher, 63, of Bedford, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Bedford, VA on January 2, 1963. Glenn was preceded in death by his father, Elmer Elisha Hatcher and sister, Angela Renee

Glenn was a lover of the outdoors who enjoyed every opportunity to hunt and fish. He had a love for bear hunting that took him to Maine many years ago. He fell in love with the beauty of Maine, which turned into annual trips he enjoyed sharing with his family. In recent years he enjoyed camping trips with his wife and close friends. He had a love for antiquing and cherished his collection of hunting traps, cast iron skillets and saws.

Mostly, Glenn enjoyed living on his farm tending to cattle and working the hay. That was where he was most happy. There he could enjoy the peace and quiet in his alone time with nature and God. It was also the place where he could share his love of farming and hunting with his family. He especially loved taking his great grand girls, Payton and Isabella, on gator rides on the farm. Those great grand girls meant the world to him.

Glenn was not a man who openly shared his deepest feelings. His love for his family was evident through his fierce loyalty. We will miss his presence greatly.

Glenn is survived by his wife of 42 years, Penny Sexton Hatcher; son, Chris Hatcher (Miranda); grandson, Gabe Hatcher (Breanna); great-grandchildren, Payton and Isabella; mother, Jeanine Hatcher and sister, Rhonda Hatcher.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Glenn's memory to Hunter's for the Hungry.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at Sedalia Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Jones, Pastor Bart Hogg and Rev. Ken Bledsoe officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church’s fellowship hall. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
