Colonel William "June" Jones Jr. was born on January 16, 1966, in Lynchburg Virgina to the late Colonel William Jones Sr. and the late Edith Page Jones. He transitioned peacefully on June 30, 2025. He was preceded in death by his siblings Pauline, Robert, Norman, Billy, Frank, and Larry Jones. He was the last of Seventeen children. He was a graduate of Amherst County High School. And after graduating from high school, he relocated to Suitland, Maryland, at which time, some of his closest friends followed in his footsteps.
On September 13, 2014, he married the love of his life and sweetheart, Starlett Holmes-Jones. Our union was blessed with an abundance of love. From the moment we met, in 2005 his presence has been a source of strength and joy. He had a way of turning moments into extraordinary memories, his unwavering support has been our anchor through both calm seas and stormy weather. Our love was a beacon that lit up even the darkest corners of my heart.
June was a devoted husband, nurturing father, and grandfather. He was well loved by all he encountered to include neighbors and clients. His sense of humor brought laughter into our hearts, turning ordinary days into joyous occasions. June’s wisdom and guidance has been a compass, helping to navigate the complexities of life. He had a way of noticing and caring for details, making our journey together all the more special. You were my ROCK.
June leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memories, his wife of 11 years, Starlett; his fury Son, Cosmo: four children: Deven Jones, Chad McDaniel, Benjamin McDaniel, Chantel West-White (Melvin) all of Lynchburg, VA. Eight grandchildren Jaymar Jones, Jaziah Jones, Noah Jones, Ma'Liyah McDaniel, Chandre West, Imani West, Anyah Cabler, Christian Cabler. Three brothers James "Wammie" (Phillis Penn), Samuel (Jessie) both of Amherst, Virgina, Earl (Lisa) of Maryland. Six sisters, Betty Blair (Paul) of Maryland, Annie Mae Moss of Amherst, Mary Rucker (Aaron) of Evington, Virginia, Grenda "Gwen" Wilkes of Lynchburg, Virginia, Alberta Sandidge (Mike), and Shirley Collins (Paul) both of Amherst, Virginia. Two Aunts, Mary Burress (Lloyd) of Palmyra, Virginia and Marjorie Morse of Charlottesville, Virginia. Mother and Father-in-law Barbara and Donald Holmes, of Fort Washington, MD. One brother-in-law Donnell Holmes (Veronica), of Clinton Maryland. A sister-in-law, Elsie Jones-Smith of Amherst, Virginia. In addition to a host of Cousins, Nieces and Nephews, other Relatives and Friends.
June was very passionate about Maryland International Race Way "Budds Creek" or "Capitol Raceway". Ever since June was young, he had a love for cars and drag racing. He could be found at any raceway on the East Coast. June was a trusted Mechanic. He was known for his skillful hands and keen eye, ability to diagnose any engine trouble. He never missed an opportunity to lend a hand, offer advice, or slide under a car to help someone out. June was well known for talking trash with the fellas and cracking jokes. He had the gift of gab and sometimes never knew when to take him seriously. He was a ride or die type of guy. He stayed ten toes down and anyone who knew June knew what time it was. June had a beautiful sense of humor and an affectionate laugh that lit up any room. June also loved cooking on the grill, and the Washington Commanders- win or lose. June loved his family and friends immensely!
June’s Motto:
May we all remember one of June's life sayings, "Race It, Break it, Fix It, Repeat". Life is short and precious. Let us love and cherish one another as June demonstrated every day of his life.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 12, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Coolwell at 1:00P.M. The family will receive friends Friday, July 11, 2025 at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights Chapel from 6:00P.M. - 8:00P.M. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Mr. Colonel William Jones, Jr. will be open for public viewing one hour prior to the service.
