It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Clarine (Missy) Rose Jefferson, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend who died on July 1, 2026, at the age of 91. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Rose and Josie Irving Rose.
Clarine was born on September 15, 1934, in Amherst County, Virginia and attended Central High School of Amherst County. Clarine also attended Burrell Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in the 1950’s and continued her pursuit of a medical career by completing credentials as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She retired as a nutrition specialist from Virginia Cooperative Extension Program run jointly by Virginia Tech and Virginia State universities.
She was a devoted member of Saint Peter Baptist Church of Clifford, Virginia. Clarine held many positions during her lifetime membership where her father, Reverend Floyd Rose also served. She sat quietly observing, intuiting and smiling, but when she spoke, everyone listened. She enjoyed serving people in whatever capacity needed and never asked for anything for herself. She did not want to bother anyone but expected you to know what she needed or wanted by reading her mind the way she could read yours. She made her entrance into glory from Loving Hands Adult Care Inc., a small private care home where she fell in love with the staff.
Clarine is survived by her children, Dr. Philicia Jefferson-Jones (Nathaniel), Marcia Guardino (Stanley), Sharon Davis, Steve Jefferson, (Maribel) and Josina Cardwell (Anthony); grandchildren, Charnita Allen, DeTasha Baskfield, LeVar Davis, Steven Davis, Stanley Guardino Jr., Nina Briggs (devoted granddaughter), Kiana Cardwell, Isabela Jefferson, several great-grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews to include her devoted nephew, Oscar Thomas and his devoted daughter Cassandra Myers.
In addition to her parents, Clarine is preceded in death by all of her nine siblings: Melvin, Abraham, Geneva, Floyd Jr., Alboyd, Darlene, Thurman, Joanna, Marshall and her grandson, Richard Wilson III, and her beloved furry friend “Trust”. Missy is a portrait of resilience, tenacity, and hope.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Clarine's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at St. Peter Baptist Church, Amherst, Virginia.
