On Thursday, January 29, 2026, the Prince of Peace closed the eyes of Clarice Haythe Lewis at her residence and her soul winged its flight from the world of pain to a place of eternal rest.

She was born on September 5, 1940 in Lynchburg, VA to the late Clarence and Vera Haythe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norvell Lewis and four brothers; LeVerl Haythe, Clarence Haythe, James Haythe, and Samuel Brewer.

She was a member of Rose Chapel Baptist Church and loved attending until her health declined. Clarice was an employee of Parker Power Train for over 30 years. Clarice loved all types of music, loved to travel, and most of all she loved her family and spending time with family and friends.

She leaves to cherish her memories, two children, James Lewis, Sr. of Madison Heights, VA and a devoted and dedicated daughter, Vera “Peedi” Lewis of Lynchburg, VA; three grandchildren, Shakima Smith of Charlotte, NC, P. Andre Jones of Lynchburg, VA, and James Lewis, Jr. of Lynchburg, VA; nine great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, My’Asia Jones; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Milton “Bo” Penn; a devoted cousin/sister of over 80 years, Carolyn Scott; one uncle, Lorenza Haythe (Barbara); one aunt, Shirley Hackney; one brother-in-law, Joe Lewis Morgan; two sisters-in-law, Brenda M. Lewis and Ella Haythe; a special friend, Arlene Jones; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A celebration of Clarice's life will be held at 2:00p.m. on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
