Clarence Randall Cox, know to nearly everyone as Randy, passed on March 14, 2026, at his home in Big Island, Virginia. He was 83 years old. Born on November 23, 1942 in Keyrock, West Virginia. Randy lived a life rich with creativity, connection with family and friends, and a genuine love for sharing what he knew and lived with others.
Randy was a teacher by profession, but continued teaching no matter where he was- in a classroom, at an anvil, or leaning under the hood of a car. He had a way of making people feel capable and encouraged. That was one of the things people loved most about him.
He was also a gifted artist whose creative spirit found expression in blacksmithing and copper work. He was an active member of Old Dominion Blacksmith Association and Central Virginia Blacksmith Guild where he found inspiration and camaraderie with fellow artisans and shared his shared knowledge of mentoring others. His work at the forge and bench reflected the same heart that he brought to every part of his life.
Randy's passions ran deep and wide. From a young age he was devoted car enthusiast, building and racing cars with his brothers for competition wth the Sports Car Club of America. He loved music of every genre. More than anything Randy loved spending good times with the people he cared about and shared his interests, and built many valued friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Randy is survived by his wife, Betty; his daughters, Carly Coleman (Ben) and Maggie Sedelmeyer (Cody) and six devoted grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to be decided.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, is assisting the family.
