Because of her belief in Jesus Christ as her Savior, Clare Davis Wallace, 92, stepped into heaven on Thursday morning, October 16, 2025. She was the devoted wife of Watson Irving Wallace for 68 years.
Born Virginia Clare Davis in Lynchburg on July 2, 1933, she was the youngest child of the late James T. Davis, Sr. and Sue Adams Davis. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four sons: Samuel, Stephen, David, and John; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry Adams Davis and James Thomas Davis, Jr.; and three sisters, Lucy Otey Davis Gunn, Nancy Elizabeth Davis Clark, and Sue DuVal Davis Breeding. She is now joyfully reunited in heaven with her beloved granddaughter, Ellie Marie Wallace, and her great-grandson, Samuell Terrance Grace, as well as many other cherished family members and friends.
Clare had a lifelong love for children and prepared at Longwood College to teach elementary school. She taught for five years before dedicating herself to raising her four sons. From her teenage years and throughout her marriage, she faithfully served children in various churches. As a member of Timberlake Baptist Church, she worked with the Primaries for over 35 years. Her heart for ministry also extended globally—she shared Christ’s love with children in Jamaica and Thailand and supported the local Chinese Christian Fellowship.
From 1968 to 2014, Clare skillfully managed her husband’s business, Wallace Appliance Service, serving as the guiding light that helped sustain it for so many years.
Clare loved flowers, especially God’s natural beauty. However, it was her wish that flowers not be sent. Instead, she requested that a rose or carnation be given to a shut-in in her memory, so that others might also enjoy a touch of God’s handiwork.
