Charles Henry Jones Jr. (often called “Chuck” by his close family) was born in Lynchburg, VA, on September 5, 1990, to Charles H. Jones, Sr. and Teresa A. Jones. On Sunday, December 28, 2025, the Lord called His beloved son home.

He is survived by his parents, Charles Jones, Sr. (Elaine) and Teresa Hinton (Kevin); his younger sister, Lauren Jones (Jeff Allen); grandparents, Harold Mosley Sr. and Mary Jones; uncle, Harold Mosley Jr.; and his niece, Sophia, whom he adored. Chuck, as he was known by his close family, was a beloved family member, teammate, and friend.

He graduated from Amherst County High School in 2008. After graduation, he attended Central Virginia Community College and graduated in May 2013 with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts & Management. Years later, he attended Central Piedmont Community College and graduated in May 2024 with a Certificate in Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Technology and a specialization in Refrigeration Systems. Just months before he passed away, Chuck had returned to school to establish a new career as an electrician.

Those who knew Chuck (or Charlie or Charles or Chuckie, depending on who you ask) loved him for his easygoing nature, joyful laugh, and quick sense of humor. While he was here with us, Chuck enjoyed working in culinary arts, traveling the world, listening to music, and playing video games. He was a hardcore Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Lakers fan and rarely missed an opportunity to share stats, trash talk opposing teams, or attend a professional football or basketball game. Chuck also loved spending time with family and friends, from weekly video game nights to visiting new cities to dancing and joking around at holidays and family reunions.

When he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, Chuck began practicing martial arts. After years of working with his coaches and teammates at GYM-O, he became an experienced jiu jitsu fighter with several competition wins under the purple belt he’d recently earned. He loved each of his gym’s members like brothers and considered them his family. In a powerful gesture that highlights Chuck’s life-changing impact on the team, GYM-O is holding a memorial in his honor and establishing the Charles Jones Steward of the Year Award. This will be the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the gym who exemplifies “Charles’s spirit of hard work, inclusion, dedication and optimism.”

Although Chuck’s life on this earth was brief by our standards, he touched the hearts and lives of so many while he was here. His gentle spirit, warm personality, and adventurous nature made him a very special person whose impact on the people around him will never be erased or forgotten. The light, love, and laughter he brought into this world will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, VA to honor his life and legacy.
