Charles Edward Bumgarner, Jr. (Bobo)

Charles Edward Bumgarner, Jr. (Bobo), of Forest, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2026. He was the son of the late Charles Edward Bumgarner, Sr. and Elnora Fay Bumgarner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Peter (Peaches) Bumgarner.

Charles was born on December 11,1956, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He graduated from Brookville High School and then joined the United States Marine Corps. He worked for the Bedford County Virginia Department of Transportation.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and target practice. His favorite place to be was outside. Charles was a loving father, grandfather, and brother who loved his family and friends with all of his heart.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Crystal Porter (Ralph), of Forest, Virginia. He cherished his granddaughters, Gracie, Chloe, Emma, and Everleigh. He is also survived by two sisters, Vicki Ryan (Bobby) and Wanda Stewart (John); along with his nieces, Erica Bowles, Jill Crawford, Jenny Reeves, Jessica Jones (Adam), and Hannah Stewart; and nephews, Nathan Reeves (Shannon) and Jonathan Bumgarner.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Oakwood Health and Rehab Center and Centra Hospice for all of the love and devoted care that was given through his battle with cancer. He was a fighter for sure. We are grateful for his nurses, Ceres, Robin, and Sierra, who loved him dearly.

His celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Tharp in Bedford.
