Charlene Yvonne Morton, a beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on October 17, 2026. Born on September 26, 1960, Charlene leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and a beautiful spirit that touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Charlene had a way of making people feel welcomed and loved. An outgoing and social person, she loved talking with people and connecting with those around her. Her infectious smile and joyful spirit could brighten a room, and her love was something that could always be felt. She was the kind of person who would go out of her way to support, encourage, and help anyone in need. Giving of herself came naturally, and her compassion for others was a reflection of the beautiful heart she carried.
Charlene graduated from Heritage High School in 1978. She went on to dedicate more than 30 years of her working life to food service at CVTC. Through her years of service, she made a lasting contribution through her hard work and dedication.
On January 3, 2025, Charlene was diagnosed with Stage IVB adenocarcinoma of the lung. She fought a long and courageous battle, facing each day with remarkable dignity, grace, and strength. Throughout her journey, Charlene trusted God with both the path before her and the outcome. Her faith sustained her, and her courage and perseverance were an inspiration to all who loved her.
Charlene is survived by her beloved son, Anthony Morton; her daughter-in-law, Jasmine Morton; and her two cherished grandchildren, Aliviyah Morton and Aisaiah Morton. She is also survived by her siblings, Gayle Thornhill, Judy Morton, Carolyn Morton, Brenda Morton, Charles “Chuck” Morton, and Tracey Morton, along with her beloved nieces and nephews: Monica Henson and her husband Robert Henson, Mandell Thornhill, Debra E. Thornhill, Lyvic Gilbert, Chriswana Morton-King and her husband Stacy King, Marques Gilbert, and Teneka Gilbert. Charlene also leaves behind a host of great-nieces and great-nephews who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Samuel Morton and Barbara Elizabeth Morton; her brother, Larry Morton; her sister-in-law, Karen Denise Morton; her brother-in-law, Garrison Thornhill; and her two nieces, Triswana Morton and Latoya Gilbert.
Above all, Charlene loved her family and cherished the relationships she shared with those closest to her. As a disciple of Peaceful Baptist Church, her faith in God sustained her, and her family finds comfort in the hope and promises of God. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, the love she shared, the joy she brought to others, and the faith she carried will remain a lasting legacy through the generations she leaves behind.
Though Charlene’s earthly journey has come to an end, the beautiful spirit she shared with the world will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Her infectious joy, generous heart, unwavering faith, and enduring love for her family and others will remain a lasting testament to a life that made a difference.
Forever loved, forever remembered, and forever cherished.
