Catherine (Kitty) McCormick, 72, of Monroe, Virginia went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on February 17, 1953 and was the daughter to the late Owen Houston and Jean Crist Houston.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Tommy (Dinky) Moore; sister, Teresa Clark; brother, Tommy Houston; and son, Michael McCormick.
Catherine was married to the love of her life, Warren (Buster) McCormick for 53 years. They were soulmates and inseparable from the beginning and showed the definition of true love through for better and for worse.
Catherine was the definition of a strong and faithful woman. She conquered battles that some couldn't even imagine having to endure, but kept her faith strong through it all. She was a dedicated member of Living Water Baptist Church, where she served God through her love of music and children. She shared the Word of God with everyone that she met. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and prepared many homemade meals from scratch throughout her life to show her love. In her spare time, she loved listening to gospel music, Elvis, and playing board games on holidays.
She is survived by her husband, Buster McCormick; sons, Allen McCormick (Beth), and Steven McCormick; granddaughters, Alicia Staton and Elleigh McCormick; grandsons, James McCormick and Nolan McCormick; and great grandchildren, Wyatt Staton and Wren Sprinkle.
She is also survived by her brothers, David Moore (Angela), and Vernon Moore (Wendy); brother in law, Tom Clark, and sister in law, Karen Houston; along with a surplus of other extended family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Lynchburg General Hospital Oncology unit for keeping Kitty comfortable during her final days. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to all family and friends for their love and support during this time.
A word from Catherine’s family: “ While we will always miss her and love her dearly, we find comfort knowing that she is no longer in pain and will be entering her eternal life onto the streets of gold and hearing the Word’s from Jesus Christ speaking “Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many.”
