Catherine "Kitty" Davenport

Kitty Davenport, 91, of Westminster Canterbury in Lynchburg, died on Saturday, April 25, 2026. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Davenport, and Cathy’s husband, Jim Davenport. She is also survived by nieces and nephews- Sarah Matthey (Robert), Nan Davenport, Kit Davenport, Mike Davenport, Ali Wieboldt (Tom), and Paul Davenport (Charlene). Kitty was predeceased by her husband James Robert (Bob) Davenport, and her son James Robert Davenport Jr.

Kitty was born in Staunton, Virginia. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High School, attended Mary Washington College, and graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC. She met her husband “Bob” at UNC. As Kitty told everyone, she got her MRS at the University of North Carolina! Except for a short period of time selling homemade neckties ( under the alias “Imma Tarheel”) and working as a teacher’s assistant in Martinsville, Kitty was a homemaker, seamstress, and tennis player. She excelled in tennis, playing from the time she was in high school until she was in her 80’s. Kitty has lived, in addition to Staunton, in Roanoke, Martinsville, and Lynchburg Virginia.

Kitty was a member of Presbyterian churches in Roanoke, Martinsville, and Lynchburg, Virginia. Her strong Christian faith goes well beyond her church denomination. It has been the entire fabric of her life. She demonstrated her faith in all areas of her life. We praise God that she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A service will be held at Rivermont Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow.
