Listen to Obituary

Carolyn O’Shaughnessy, 78, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2025. She will be remembered for her warmth, her infectious laughter, and the kindness she so naturally extended to everyone around her.

Born to Annie and Jack Chappell, who preceded her in death, Carolyn built a life rich with love and friendship. Over the years she worked many jobs, but the role she cherished most was as the owner and hairdresser of New Beginnings Salon in Stewartsville, Virginia. There, she formed countless lifelong friendships and touched the lives of those who sat in her chair—not only with her skill, but with her humor, compassion, and ability to brighten any room.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Theresa (Jerry) Scherzinger and Scott (Sharlene) Johnson; and by her grandchildren Alexis (Jacob) McCullough, Sydney (Jake) VanDoren, Aaron Robertson, and Aiden Johnson. She also leaves behind her beloved great-grandchildren Rowan McCullough, Easton VanDoren, and Jace VanDoren, each of whom brought immense joy to her later years.

An animal lover all her life, Carolyn was a devoted dog mom to Bud Dog and Gambino. She loved music, cherished time spent with family and friends, and had a special way of making everyone feel welcome and loved. Her laughter—full, bright, and unmistakably hers—will be remembered by all who knew her.

A private family celebration of life will be held in Indiana. In honor of her love for animals, the family asks that donations be made in Carolyn’s name to Angels of Assisi in Roanoke, in lieu of cards or flowers.

Carolyn will be forever missed and lovingly remembered.
