Carl Edmond Licht

Carl Edmond Licht passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 9.  He was born on April 11, 1919, to Edmond and Tekla Licht of Aurora, IL.  He graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in chemical engineering.

Carl married Bernice Aber from Wyandotte, MI in 1947 and was a loving father to Greg and Diana.  Carl owned and operated Licht Steele Construction and Greenwood Welding located in River Rouge, MI until he retired in 1981.

After his first wife passed away, Carl attended a high school class reunion in Aurora, Illinois and reunited with classmate Esther Thomas, who was also a widow.   They were married on September 17, 1983, and resided in Elgin, IL until 2001, when they moved to Forest, VA.

Carl was always an active and enthusiastic member of Rotary in River Rouge, MI, Elgin, IL, Sarasota, FL, and Lynchburg, VA.  He contributed many years of service to the Easter Seal Society and helped frame a house for Habitat for Humanity in Elgin.   He was a member of Forest Presbyterian Church.  His passions included family, sailing, politics, gardening, and always helping others.  He was a kind and gentle soul with a quick smile and always a patient attitude.

Carl is survived by his wife, Esther Licht, of Forest, VA; his son, Greg Licht of Reno, NV; his daughter, Diana (Tudy) Licht of Traverse City, MI; granddaughter Carey Licht of Moscow, ID; stepdaughter and son-in-law Betty Jo and David Gardner of Forest, VA; stepson Chuck Thomas of Chagrin Falls, OH; and step-grandchildren Chris and Brad Gardner, Chad and Brooke Thomas.

Greg and Diana Licht would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Esther, Betty Jo and Dave Gardner for the years of excellent care they have given our father.

A celebration of Carl\"™s life and faith will be held at Forest Presbyterian Church, Two Church Road, in Forest, VA on Saturday, March 13, at 11:00 am, with Rev. Morgan Whitfield officiating.  The family will greet friends at 10:30 prior to the service and invites you to a luncheon immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Forest Presbyterian Church, PO Box 311, Forest, VA 24551, or a charity of your choice.
