Calvin DeVese Hughes

Calvin DeVese Hughes, 87, of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026.  

Calvin was born on Monday, July 4, 1938, in Lynchburg, Virginia. He was the son of the late Calvin O. Hughes and Victoria DeVese Hughes.  He attended school at E.C. Glass High School, then pursued his career in appliance sales.

Calvin was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edith Helene Hughes; his sons, Calvin DeVese Hughes, Jr. and wife, Gabi of Richmond, and Kip Hughes and wife, Cindy, of Lynchburg; his daughter, Kay Wyland and husband, Mike of Monroe; six grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; his brother, Hobart Hughes of North Carolina; and many loving friends in community.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lynchburg Humane Society, or the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church General Fund.

A private family service will be held.
