Bruce Anderson

Son of Guy and Irene Anderson Bruce Stites Anderson was born September 25, 1924 in Sayville, NY on Long Island.  A graduate of Sayville HS, he matriculated with what would become Washington & Lee University\"™s vanishing class of 1945.  Among those who entered the 1940/41 school year, only five(est.) graduated, the rest leaving after their first year to join the war effort.  Bruce attended naval training and officer\"™s school back in New York and was assigned to the Merchant Marine.  He served in the Mediterranean, North Atlantic, and Pacific theaters.  In 1995, Washington and Lee University honored the service of those of the lost class of \"™45 at their 50th reunion with a surprise graduation ceremony in Lee Chapel where they were presented honorary degrees by President Elrod.

After the war he followed in his father\"™s footsteps and began a career in the textile and garment industry.  He worked with Sears and Montgomery Ward among others and again found himself traveling to the Far East quite often for business.  In addition to developing a great respect and fondness for the various countries and cultures in Asia, he loved Spain and all things Spanish and would spend time vacationing there with family and friends throughout his life.  As an avid golfer, he played everywhere he could in the US and abroad.  Among his favorite courses were the Valderrama in Spain and Ballybunion in Ireland.

Friends and acquaintances will remember him as charming, thoughtful, and engaging.  Family will always cherish his fondness, love, and devotion that he maintained throughout his life.  He is survived by his wife, Elinor, of  almost 46 years, his six children, Bruce, Glenn, Scott, Craig, Martha, and James, eleven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
