Bonnie Parks (Brenda) Hawks Johnson, 77, of Lynchburg, passed away, Friday, November 21, 2025. She was the loving wife of Thomas Alfred Johnson for over 50 years.
Bonnie was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on Friday, February 13, 1948, a daughter of the late Nathan Watson Parks Hawks and Edna Moore Parks Hawks. Bonnie was retired from Leggett’s Department Store where she worked as a Commercial Display Artist for 18 years. She attended Central Virginia Community College graduating Summa Cum Laude in Medical Record Technology in 1986 and she and her husband moved to Newark Delaware where she held positions as a certified medical record coder in various hospitals and medical offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Bonnie retired when she and her husband returned to Lynchburg in 1998.
Bonnie had many interests; she collected antique glass, marbles, and antique medical supplies items, and dearly loved and rescued animals all her life. She was an accomplished artist painting in oils and creating various wood items. She was a former Director of the Lynchburg Humane Society in the 1970’s & 80’s. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Kim Hawks, and one sister, Connie Hill. In addition to her husband, she is survived by an aunt and uncle, Lynda and David Hawks, and numerous cousins.
A Celebration of Bonnie’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A reception will follow immediately after the service. Interment will be held privately at Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg.
