Betty Tomlin Tyree of Amherst County, age 84, peacefully passed away on October 5, 2025, in Lynchburg, Virginia, surrounded by her loving family. She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Franklin Tyree, Sr.
Born on January 26, 1941, in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Jessie Tomlin and Bertha Burks Tomlin. She dedicated many years of her professional life to Griffin Pipe, where she made lasting contributions and forged meaningful relationships.
Betty was known as a prayer warrior, whose love and devotion to her family were immeasurable. She cherished moments spent with her relatives and instilled in them important values that they will carry forward.
Betty is survived by her beloved sons, Don Tyree, II, and his wife, Melinda, of Monroe, and Derek Tyree and his significant other, Heidi, of Amherst. She was the proud grandmother of Chelsey Tyree, Tre Tyree and wife, Summer, Olivia Tyree, Paxton Elder, Ruger Tyree, Ryan Dorr and wife, Kaity, Brandon Dorr and wife Jessica, and Makynna Campbell. Additionally, she was the joyous great-grandmother to Paisley Rae Utley and Wrenley Dorr.
She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Humphreys and her husband, James; her brother, Marshall Tomlin, and his significant other, Cindy; her sisters-in-law, Diane Tomlin, Norma Jean Coleman and her husband, Gordon, Marianne Stinnett, and Sue Willman; numerous nieces and nephews whose lives she touched; as well as, her special friend and caregiver, Ann Ricketts.
In addition to her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Elwood Tomlin, sister and brother in law, Shirley and Norman Massie, 2 Brother-in-Laws Dickie Tyree and Ray Stinnett, and Sister-in-law, Edilee Tomlin, 2 nephews, Dean Tomlin and Craig Humphys.
The family will receive friends at Union Christian Church, located at 160 Parsonage Rd, Madison Heights, VA 24572, on October 10, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Betty's Life at 3:30 PM.
