Bernard Edwin Mazanec

July 30, 1933 — August 17, 2025

Bernard Edwin Mazanec, 92, of Evergreen, Virginia passed away on August 17, 2025. He was the son of Edwin John Mazanec and Martha Kjar, of Bozeman, MT and the husband of Cecil Kay Harvey of Evergreen, VA for 10 years.

Bernard (Bing) was born on July 30, 1933, in Lexington, NE. The family moved to Bozeman Montana where he attended school at Holy Rosary Catholic School, then pursued his Bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture at Montana State University. He was licensed to practice Architecture in the States of Montana, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Mississippi. Additionally, he was a member of the American Institute of Architects. The family moved to Virginia in1985, where he worked for Wiley Wilson Architectural and Engineering firm in Lynchburg.

Bing was a member of Evergreen United Methodist Church and enjoyed carpentry, painting, drawing, reading and spending time with family. In his younger years he was a boy scout leader, a little league coach, a member of Toast Masters of America, and a proud member of the National Guard.

In addition to his wife: Bing is survived by his children: Thomas Paul Mazanec (Beth), David Brian Mazanec, Daniel Gerard Mazanec (Juvy), and Julie Terese Mazanec, step-daughter Beverly Harvey Cyrus (Ronnie), step-son Daniel P. Harvey (Anu); his grandchildren: Michael Thomas Mazanec (Traci), Nicholas Jon Mazanec (Sarah), Mark Daniel Mazanec, Molly Pepper Mazanec, Courtney Cyrus Gunn (Brian), Mira S. Harvey, and Nikhil P. Harvey; his great-grandchildren: Isaac Matthew Mazanec, Andrew Dean Mazanec, Elizabeth Grace Mazanec, Francis Jon Mazanec, Althea Marie Mazanec, Henry D. Gunn, Peter N. Gunn, Robert C. Gunn and many loving friends in the community.

Bing is predeceased by his parents, his brother Wayne Arthur Mazanec, and his first wife Patricia M. Mazanec.

A celebration of Bings life will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday October 5, 2025 at Evergreen Methodist Church. There will be a reception following the service for fellowship and stories. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lynchburg Humane Society and Evergreen United Methodist Church. Bing loved all animals and his church more than anything.
