Aubrey Snead Candler

Aubrey Snead Candler, 92, of Lynchburg, died Monday June 4, 2012. He was the devoted husband of Wilsa Tanner Candler.

Aubrey was born August 4, 1919 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Samuel Jones Candler and Nettie Drinkard Candler. Aubrey honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific on Kwajelien Island from 1941 to 1945. He was a talented furniture and cabinet maker. He was a member of the Mended Hearts of Lynchburg, United Methodist Men (UMM), American Legion Post 16, and the Gideons of Lynchburg. Aubrey was also a member of Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two children; Aubrey S. Candler II of Lynchburg, and Elizabeth Wilsa Candler, DDS, and her husband, Matthew Gray of Danville, four grandchildren; Hilliary Candler, Mallory Candler, Claire Gray, and Zachary Gray.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother Rodchester Candler.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow at the church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Becky Cloud officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post #16.
